  • semolina idli or rice idli - 6
  • small mustard seeds (rai) - ½ tsp
  • red chilli powder - ½ tsp
  • black pepper powder - ¼ tsp
  • ginger paste - 1 tsp
  • soya sauce - 1 tsp
  • tomato sauce - 1 tsp
  • vinegar - 1 tsp
  • chilli garlic sauce - ½ tsp (optional)
  • green chilli sauce - ½ tsp (optional)
  • cabbage and capsicum - 1 cup (cut into fine long strips)
  • onion - ½ cup (cut into fine long strips)
  • salt - as per taste
  • oil - 2 tbsp
  1. cut the onion, cabbage and capsicums.
  2. to make fried rava idli or fried rice idli, cut each idli from the centre to divide them into 4 equal pieces.
  3. heat the oil in a wok/kadai. when oil is hot, add mustard seeds into it. let them splutter for one minute.
  4. now add ginger and saute them for another minute.
  5. now add chopped onions and cook till the onions are translucent.
  6. add capsicum and cabbage and saute them.
  7. stir the ingredients continuously for 4-5 minutes as they get cooked.
  8. now add red chilli powder, soya sauce, tomato sauce, vinegar, chilli garlic sauce, green chilli sauce and black pepper powder. mix all the contents in the kadai as you stir them constantly for 2-3 minutes on a high flame.
  9. after that add pieces of idli in it and mix them properly.
  10. cover and cook on low flame for 2-3 minutes. keep stirring in between.
  11. switch off the gas.
  12. now hot and delicious chinese style fried idlis is ready to be served. you can serve this fried idli along with tomato sauce or szechuan sauce.
