Jeera Aloo Recipe for Navratri upwas is a simple, easy, quick and delicious recipe made with boiled potatoes and Indian spices. My family loves this aloo jeera or vrat Ke aloo a lot and asks me to pack it in his officebox or lunchbox. You can serve this as a side dish as well as a upvaas food.

Ingredients

  • 5 Potatoes (Medium size)
  • 4 cup Water (for boiling potatoes)
  • ½ tsp Cumin Seeds (Jeera)
  • tsp Coriander Powder
  • ¼ tsp Red Chili Powder or Black Pepper Powder
  • ¾ tsp Sendha Namak or Rock Salt (as per taste)
  • 1 tsp Lemon Juice
  • 2 tbsp Ghee/Oil
  • 1 tbsp Fresh Coriander (finely chopped)

Instructions

Instructions for how to boil the potatoes with step by step photos:

  • Firstly, take a pressure cooker, add potatoes and enough water to dip the potatoes.
  • Further, pressure cooks the potatoes until they get soft or for about 2-3 whistles on high flame.
  • Potatoes should be tender and cooked completely.
  • Now switch off the flame.
  • After that, peel and chop the boiled potatoes.
  • Rest the chopped potatoes aside.

Instructions for how to make jeera aloo

  • Firstly, heat 2 tbsp of ghee/oil in a wok or Kadai. When oil is hot, add cumin seeds into it and let them splutter for a few seconds.
  • Additionally, coriander powder, red chili powder, and green chili into it and saute them for a few seconds.
  • After sauteing the masala, now add boiled and chopped potatoes and salt into it.
  • Further, mix all the ingredients well.
  • Cook for about 3-4 minutes on low flame.
  • Now add fresh lemon juice and mix well.
  • Cook this on low flame for 2-3 minutes.
  • After that, add finely chopped coriander leaves and cook for a few seconds.
  • Switch off the flame.
  • Finally, hot and delicious jeera aloo for navratri upwaas / vrat is ready to be served.
  • Serve this vrat vale aloo with steaming hot kuttu paratha, or kuttu poori.
