Sabudana Khichdi Recipe | Sago Khichdi Recipe | How to make Sabudana Khichdi for Navratri Fasting Vrat Upvas

Ingredients

Sabudana Khichdi Ingredients:

  • 1 cup Sabudana / Tapioca Pearls / Sago
  • ¼ cup Peanuts
  • 1 medium Boiled Potato
  • 1 tsp Grated Ginger
  • 1 tsp Green Chili (finely chopped)
  • ¼ tsp Red Chili Powder (optional)
  • ½ tsp Cumin Seeds / Jeera
  • ¼ tsp Black Pepper
  • 1 tsp Lemon Juice
  • 1 tbsp Fresh Coriander (finely chopped)
  • 1 tbsp Ghee
  • ½ tsp Sendha Namak (adjust as per taste)

Instructions

  • Firstly, wash the sabudana/sago and soak them for 5-6 hours in the water in a container.
  • The water level should be just 1 cm above the sabudana in the container.
  • Keep stirring the sabudana in the container every two hours to maintain uniformity.
  • After 5-6 hours, check them by hand, if still hard keep them soaked for a few hours more.
  • Once they are soft, strain the excess water and keep it aside.
  • Please Note: sabudana comes in different sizes and soaking time may differ.
  • Further, roast peanuts on a hot pan/wok, peel off the skin, and then grind them.
  • After that, peel the boiled potato and cut it into small cubes.
  • Mix the powdered peanuts and sendha namak (rock salt) with the drained sabudana.
  • Further, heat the ghee in a pan/wok, and add cumin seeds.
  • Let them splutter for a few seconds.
  • Now add coriander powder, red chili powder, black pepper powder, chopped green chilies, and grated ginger.
  • Cook them for a few seconds or till the raw smell of the ginger goes away.
  • Additionally, add potato cubes. Stir and cook well till it becomes golden brown in color.
  • After that, add sabudana and mix well. Saute for 4-5 minutes.
  • Further, add lime juice and mix well.
  • Cook for another 4-5 minutes on low flame.
  • After that, switch off the flame and sprinkle some chopped fresh coriander and mix well.
  • Finally, hot and delicious sabudana khichdi or sago khichdi for Navratri Vrat / Fast is ready to be served.

Notes

Sabudana comes in different sizes so soaking time may differ.
