Firstly, heat oil in a pan.
Further, add chana dal, and urad dal, and roast this on a medium flame till golden brown in colour.
Additionally, add dry red chilli and saute for a few seconds.
Add the garlic, tamarind paste, and black pepper powder and saute it.
After 2 minutes switch off the flame and add salt, and grated coconut, and mix well.
Put all together into the mixer grinder, add some water and make a paste.
Further, pour this chutney into a bowl.
For the tadka, heat 1 tbsp oil in a small pan. Once the oil is hot, add curry leaves, mustard seeds and cumin seeds and a pinch of hing and fry them.
Now add tadka to the chutney bowl and mix well.
Finally, red chilli coconut chutney is ready to be served with idli, dosa, uttapam, vada, pakoda or any South Indian Dish.
