Red Coconut Chutney Recipe | Chilli Coconut Chutney Recipe | How to make red coconut chutney

Red Chilli Coconut Chutney Recipe is an important part of any South Indian Dish. It goes perfect with idli, dosa, uttapam and vada etc. This red coconut chutney recipe tastes great with plain dosa. A thin layer can be spread on the inside of the dosa. It tastes great and is a good variation on regular dosas.

Ingredients

  • 6 Dry Red Chillies
  • 2 tsp Chana Dal
  • 1 tsp Urad Dal
  • ½ tsp Tamarind Paste
  • 1 tsp Jaggery or Sugar
  • 1 cup Grated Coconut
  • 4 Cloves Garlic
  • ½ tsp Black Pepper Powder
  • ½ tsp Mustard Seeds (Rai)
  • ¼ tsp Asafoetida (Hing)
  • 6 Curry Leaves
  • 2 tbsp Oil
  • ½ tsp salt (adjust as per taste)
  • ½ cup Water (as per required)

Instructions

  • Firstly, heat oil in a pan.
  • Further, add chana dal, and urad dal, and roast this on a medium flame till golden brown in colour.
  • Additionally, add dry red chilli and saute for a few seconds.
  • Add the garlic, tamarind paste, and black pepper powder and saute it.
  • After 2 minutes switch off the flame and add salt, and grated coconut, and mix well.
  • Put all together into the mixer grinder, add some water and make a paste.
  • Further, pour this chutney into a bowl.
  • For the tadka, heat 1 tbsp oil in a small pan. Once the oil is hot, add curry leaves, mustard seeds and cumin seeds and a pinch of hing and fry them.
  • Now add tadka to the chutney bowl and mix well.
  • Finally, red chilli coconut chutney is ready to be served with idli, dosa, uttapam, vada, pakoda or any South Indian Dish.
