A light and delicious khichdi dish made with Pusai Rice or Tinni Rice spiced lightly. It is mostly eaten during the fasting days like Navratri or Janmashtami or any other fast / vrat / upvas when people are fasting. Posai Rice Khichdi for Navratri fast is one of the main fasting dishes from North India. Pair this fast khichdi or tinni rice khichdi with a bowl of curd and coriander chutney.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Pasai ke Chawal / Tinni Rice
  • 1 Potato (chopped)
  • 1 tsp Green Chili (finely chopped)
  • ½ tsp Cumin Seeds (Jeera)
  • ¾ tsp Sendha Namak or Rock Salt
  • 2 tsp Ghee/Oil
  • 2.5 cup Water
  • 1 tbsp Fresh Coriander (finely chopped)

Instructions

  • Firstly, grind the posai chawal a little bit.
  • Wash and soak the vrat rice or tinni rice for at least 30 minutes.
  • Further, heat 2 tsp of ghee/oil in a pressure cooker.
  • In addition, add cumin seeds.
  • Once it splutters add finely chopped green chili and saute for a few seconds.
  • After that, add the chopped potato and mix well.
  • Shallow fry this for 1-2 minutes.
  • Now add pasai rice or tinni rice and mix well.
  • In addition, add 2.5 cups of water, sendha namak and mix well.
  • Now, pressure cooks it for 3 whistles.
  • After 15 minutes, open the lid of the pressure cooker.
  • Add finely chopped fresh coriander to the vrat khichdi.
  • Mix all the ingredients well.
  • Finally, serve this yummy Pusai ke Chawal ki Khichdi with curd and coriander chutney.

Notes

By grinding the Pasai rice or vrat rice a little bit, it gets cooked quickly.
