bread pakoda, also known as bread pakora, is a famous breakfast, tea time snack and popular street food of india. it can be prepared in two ways, first one is plain bread pakora and the other one is with potato stuffing.

the stuffed bread pakoda recipe | bread pakora recipe is stuffed with a filling of mashed spiced potatoes, dipped in besan and then deep fried. there are other fillings that can be used such as paneer (cottage cheese filling), cheese and even green peas.

in addition i would like to share some of my other bread snacks recipes from my blog. it mainly includes crispy potato toast, bread dahi bhalla, bread fritters, aloo sandwich, no fry bread rolls etc.


ingredients for making aloo stuffing  :

  • potatoes – 4 medium (boiled)
  • cumin seeds (jeera) – ½ tsp
  • green chili – 1 (chopped) (optional)
  • coriander powder (dhania) – 2 tsp
  • red chili powder – ½ tsp
  • garam masala – ½ tsp
  • mango powder (amchur) – 1 tsp
  • salt – as per taste
  • coriander leaves (cilantro or hara dhania) – 2 tbsp (finely chopped)

ingredients for bread pakoda recipe | bread pakora recipe :

  • bread slice – 8
  • gram flour (besan) – 2 cup (can use coarse besan for crunch)
  • red chilli powder – ½ tsp
  • turmeric powder – ½ tsp
  • asafoetida (hing) – a pinch
  • salt – as per taste
  • water – as needed
  • oil – for frying the pakodas


directions for making aloo stuffing :

  • pressure cook potatoes for 3-4 whistles. wait till it cools.
  • once cool, peel off the skin, and roughly mashed them well with a potato masher or with a back of a ladle.

  • take a bowl and  add all the ingredients: mashed potatoes, cumin seeds, coriander powder, green chili, red chilli powder, mango powder, salt, garam masala, and cilantro for samosa pinwheel.

  • mix all the ingredients very well.

  • aloo stuffing is ready now.

  • take gram flour in any big bowl.
  • now add salt, turmeric powder, asafoetida and red chilly powder.
  • add water little by little and prepare a batter. make sure the gram flour batter is not too drippy or too dense.

  • preheat oil in a kadai/wok. the oil for frying bread pakoras should be aptly heated and keep the flame medium.
  • take a bread slice, layer stuffing over it and place another slice over it. press it very gently and seal.

  • cut bread into two pieces, giving it a triangular shape.

  • likewise, prepare all bread slices.
  • now coat the bread with gram flour batter and place it in hot oil for frying.

  • fry the bread pakoras for 1-2 minutes from both side.

  • similarly, prepare all bread pakoras.

  • fry the bread pakoras until they turn golden brown in color from both sides.
  • once fried, take them out in a plate with a absorbent paper to remove excess oil. similarly, prepare all bread pakoras.
  • serve delicious and steaming hot stuffed bread pakoda or bread pakora with green coriander chutney, tomato sauce.
